As the redevelopment of the 55 acres along Homer Adams Parkway in Alton from golf course to mixed-use development continues, but the big piece of the puzzle is still to be received. The state is finishing its environmental assessment of the former Wadlow Golf Course and the proposed plan, and the city is trying to make sure it has its ducks in a row when word comes if the site will be chosen as the location of a new train station.
More than just a train station, the property is being prepped for the construction of a new multi-modal transportation center than includes a high speed rail station and Madison County Transit bus station, and limited commercial and residential development. MCT Spokesman S.J. Morrison says he is looking forward to when this all comes together:
A $13.85-million TIGER Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation was awarded a little over a year ago, and is being shared with Madison County Transit, which will provide the bus service for the train station.
