Kids in East St. Louis can turn in their toy guns for a new item at an upcoming “Toy Gun Buyback Initiative.” Organizer Leah Gunning-Francis says there are better things for kids to do than engage in violent play. The exchange will be next Saturday July 13th from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Kids won’t actually get cash for their toy gun but they will get a different, non-violent toy. There are three drop off locations, including one at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center in East St. Louis. Two other locations are on the Missouri side of the river. Those locations are the O’Fallon Park Recreation Center on West Florissant and the North County Recreation Center on North Redman. People who don’t live in the area can also join the cause. They can make donations and get more information at www.toygunbuyback.org
