Tornado sirens are what some people rely on for early warning, but for many, notification comes through the radio, TV, or Code Red warning system.  In the case of a number of Riverbend communities, there will be a new emphasis on tornado sirens.  The Wood River City Council has voted to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with Roxana, South Roxana, Hartford, and Phillips 66 that will in theory blanket the area with a network of tornado sirens.

Wood River Fire Chief Steve Alexander says much of the credit for this agreement goes to Phillips 66.

He says while tornado sirens are definitely a part of the overall protection equation, you must also utilize other methods as well, such as the radio warnings, Code Red alerts, and paying attention to the weather as it develops around you.
