The National Weather Service has confirmed that three tornados definitely did come through the St. Louis area Friday.  The one-thousand-yard-wide EF-3 twister that ripped through a 32-mile path of St. Charles and north St. Louis City damaged hundreds of homes and caused more than 100 people to be treated for moderate injuries.  The EF-3 tornado in Hartford and Roxana reached speeds up to 140 mph and there was structural damage but no injuries were reported.

The Road Ranger and Midwest Motor Sports in Hartford along Route 3 suffered damage, as did several businesses including a building at the ConocoPhillips Refinery.  In Macoupin County Illinois, an EF-2 tornado tore the roof off of the high school gymnasium in Gillespie and many homes were damaged there and in East Gillespie as well.  Ameren expects all customers power to be returned by the end of this week, with just under 800 still without power in the Edwardsville-Glen Carbon area this morning.  (The photo above shows Ameren workers in Edwardsville, working to install a new poll on Sunday.)
