Charges are pending against the parents of two small children who were found wandering alone in Granite City. A neighbor found the one-and-three-year-olds Wednesday afternoon in an area of Delmar and 21st Street and called 911. The one year old was in a diaper and the three year old was wearing only pajama pants. Police say it appears the parents had left the kids with a roommate who was sleeping, and they simply wandered out the unlocked front door.

The parents were reportedly at a school event with another child. Police say the toddlers had been outside for about an hour and while they were found shivering, they were otherwise unharmed. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has been called in to assist in the investigation, and the children are temporarily in foster care.
