It's Veterans Day and Illinoisans are encouraged to take some time to honor all veterans for their patriotism and willingness to serve the country.  The observance of Veterans Day started 94 years ago when World War One officially ended with a treaty.

The actual fighting ended seven months earlier when an "armistice" between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.  It became a legal holiday in 1938 but wasn't recognized as "veterans" day until 1954.
