Three people were injured late last night in a fire escape collapse in downtown Alton. The incident took place around 11pm outside an upstairs apartment in the 100 block of West Third Street at the rear of the building that also houses the Olive Oil Marketplace on the main level.

The female who was apparently injured had already left the scene to seek treatment for her injuries by the time firefighters arrived and the two males were treated at the scene and later transported to local hospitals by ambulance for their injuries. Chief Sebold says the building owner is meeting with the Alton Building and Zoning Department to determine what happened and what repairs will need to be made to the structure.
