The Illinois State Police responded to a head-on crash that sent three people to hospitals yesterday on Fosterburg Road near Strohbeck Lane in Foster Township yesterday. The collision took place just after noon Saturday when a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer crashed into a 2010 Chevrolet Impala.  Two dogs that were riding in the Impala were also injured.

Illinois State Police report witnesses told them the 67 year old driver of the Mountaineer appeared to be swerving on the roadway and talking on a cell phone just before the crash.  The Mountaineer crossed the center line and hit the Impala which was driven by a 57 year old male and also included a 60 year old female passenger and the dogs.  All three people had to be extricated from the two vehicles and flown to area hospitals with critical injuries.  An animal control office from Highland responded to care for the animals.  Charges in the case are pending.
