An East Alton man was recently scammed out of $150 after purchasing what he believed was a new cellphone through Facebook. According to a report from Alton Police, 21-year old Justin Allsman set up the purchase on the social media site, agreeing to meet the sellers at the McDonald’s on East Broadway in Alton on Sunday. After arriving at the location, Allsman was allegedly attacked by the individuals who set up the sale. During the incident one of the attackers hit Allsman in the head with a pistol, before speeding away with the money.

A subsequent investigation by Alton Police has resulted in charges being filed against three of the four individuals involved in the attack and robbery. 18-year old Rebecca Starnes of the 600 block of Sterling Avenue, 19-year old Melvin Bell of the 700 block of East Sixth Street and 19-year old Devonta M. Davis of the 3000 block of Edgewood Avenue, all in Alton, have each been charged with felony counts of armed robbery, aggravated robbery and aggravated battery. Starnes is being held at the Madison County Jail on a $2,500 bond. Davis and Bell have not been taken into custody and anyone with information on their whereabouts is encouraged to contact Alton Police at 463-3535.
