The recent cold snap may have shown you areas in your hoMe or apartment that could benefit from an energy-efficiency makeover. Windows, doors, and exhaust fans are all common places where the cold air can get in. The Citizens Utility Board says you can use the knowledge you have gained over the last couple of weeks to plan ahead and save some money.

Other tips are to reduce the drafts by sealing up leaks. This can be done with anything from professional equipment to a rolled up towel. Clear radiators, registers, air returns and baseboards of obstructions. Clean or replace filters for a forced-air heating system. And circulate the heat with the help of a ceiling fan. In the winter, run the fan clockwise to pull warm air down from the ceiling.
