A tentative agreement has apparently been reached between the Alton Education Association and the Alton School District.  The union rejected the contract offer the Alton School District presented last week, and voted to file an intent to strike notice.  But a bargaining session Thursday has yielded a contract offer that both sides can live with.

Chris Norman, Director of Finance for the Alton School District tells The Big Z it is a relief to have a tentative deal in place.

Alton Education Association President Brenda Powers says details of the agreement will not be revealed until the membership has a chance to look at the proposed deal.

A membership meeting has tentatively been scheduled for Thursday November 12 with the intent of having the union membership approve the contract.  Assuming that happens, the school board will do the same at its meeting on November 17.
