Hundreds of players have been recognized over the years as winners and participants in Lewis and Clark Community College's United States Tennis Association Men's Futures Pro Circuit Tournament. And now the tournament itself has claimed an award. It was named the 2012 Best Adult Tournament by the USTA's St. Louis District earlier this month.
LCCC's tournament was chosen based on USTA criteria including tournament organization, staffing, quality facilities, and amenities for players, volunteers and spectators. Jim Hunstein, USTA Coordinator for Lewis and Clark says he was surprised but that this recognition was a long time coming.
Hunstein also says that the tournament can't grow any larger than it is, and that he would like to see is to move up from a qualifier to the next level of competition. More than 150 players participated in the tournament last year, and the school has already confirmed that the Futures event will return to the college again in July.
