First the polar vortex, now a bit of a winter thaw. Weather forecasters say temperatures could be in the mid 40’s by the weekend, and that could present more challenges for road crews, especially if the warmer temperatures are accompanied by rain, according to Madison County Highway Engineer Mark Gvillo.

He says that is still a few days away, so the immediate concern is for possible refreezing at night after a day or two of melting. Gvillo says it is important for motorists to realize that even though there has been substantial improvement on area highways, you still need to watch your speed, allow extra room for braking, and give the highway trucks plenty of room to maneuver.
