Wild temperature swings highlight the January weather wrap-up. Last month started and ended much warmer than usual, with a cold spurt in mid-January. Those highs and lows brought the statewide average temperature to 26.7 degrees for the month, which is about normal.
State Climatologist Jim Angel says both precipitation and snowfall were below average.

Angel says most areas only saw about two to five inches in January, although Western Illinois saw up to seven and a half inches in some areas.
