Two juveniles have been taken into custody in connection with recent vandalism at the Greater St. James Baptist Church in Alton. One was arrested last night, and the other this morning. Since the suspects are juveniles, not much else is being shared by investigators with the police department.
The church is located at the bottom of the hill where Belle Street and Piasa Street meet. More than $3,000 in damage was done by the suspects, which included the breaking of windows on the church bus. They poured motor oil inside the bus, and that vehicle is now unuseable, at least for a little while. The burglar alarm at the church went off after they shattered a window to the building, but nothing appears to have been stolen.
