Police say a teen was attacked on a Madison County bike trail yesterday afternoon. The 18-year-old says she was biking along the Goshen Trail in Edwardsville Tuesday when a man ran from the woods claiming he needed help for his friend. When the victim got off her bike, she says the man attacked her. She managed to escape with only a few scratches and the suspect escaped on foot.
The attack took place near the 500 block of Kansas Street near the Esic Subdivision. The suspect is described as a thin black male in his late teens, wearing a blue t-shirt, black shorts with a white vertical stripe and also had a drawstring backpack. The trails are very popular throughout the county for bicyclists, walkers, runners and rollerbladers and regular users say that won’t change because of this isolated incident. Police recommend if you use the trail, do so in pairs and if someone approaches you to stop, offer to call for help but keep moving. If anyone has information about Tuesday’s incident, they are urged to contact Edwardsville Police at 656-2131.
