Members of the Alton Education Association have resoundingly rejected a contract offer by the Alton School District. The president of the union says out of the 475 members in attendance at Thursday’s meeting, about 90% voted “no” to the district’s latest offer.
AEA President Brenda Powers tells The Big Z they will go back to the bargaining table and try again.

Powers says the members are very aware a strike is possible if an agreement is not reached with the next set of negotiations. She reminds they have been working without a contract all year, and their membership has become some of the lowest paid educators in the area.
