A new gymnasium complex is in the works for Civic Memorial High School following a special meeting of the Bethalto School Board earlier this week. The 3.2-million project will include a new 10,000 square foot addition to the high school that will house a competition gym floor, a new weight training facility, locker rooms, bathrooms and seating for up to 600 people.
Physical Education teacher Angie Parish says that this new gym will take care of a huge problem they faced in the past.
Parish also says that this will also allow for the expansion of the curriculum including the addition of CPR and Zumba classes.
District officials awarded to the project to Bruce Unterbrink Construction with the The majority of the funding for the project will be covered by state and federal grants. Construction is set to begin by mid-September.
