In the face of many hurdles and barriers, teachers generally love their jobs, according to a new survey. The Illinois Federation for Teachers is publicizing the results of the Teaching and Learning International Survey, put out by the international Organisation (cq) for Economic Co-operation and Development.

“They have a strong sense that they're doing the job for the right reasons,” says Dan Montgomery, IFT's president. “Still, (in) all the surveys, you ask them about what kind of support they get, and that's where you see the big drop-offs.”
Even though throwing money at a problem does not automatically cure it, Montgomery says, “Resources matter, and we have stark gaps in resources in this state for what is available to educate kids in certain areas.”
