The general membership of the Alton Education Association has approved a new contract that will cover teachers for the next three years. While details of the new deal are not being made public yet, more will be learned following the Alton School District board meeting tonight. The membership approved the deal with 80% in favor.
This is a new deal, not to be confused with the salary re-opener that resulted in a series of failed attempts at a new deal last December and January, according to lead negotiator for the Alton Education Association, Edie Banks:
District Director of Financial Services Chris Norman says the two sides were able to get this done due to a healthy level of respect.
The AEA represents nearly 800 teachers and other staff. Tonight's board meeting starts at 7:00 at the school district office on Broadway.
