The number of cases of tuberculosis in Illinois rose last year.  It's the first time in a decade Illinois has had an increase in TB cases, with 344 recorded last year.  General symptoms are fatigue, weight loss, fever, and night sweats, but may also include a persistent cough that sometimes produces blood.

State Department of Public Health spokesman Melaney Arnold says those diagnosed with TB must strictly adhere to their treatment regimen.

TB is contagious and is spread through the air when someone sick coughs or sneezes.
