The deadline is approaching for Illinois residents who received a tax-filing extension. The IRS is urging those taxpayers to double check their returns and take advantage of electronic filing at its website. October 15th is the last day for most taxpayers who requested a six-month extension.
Internal Revenue Service spokesman Bill Brunson says time is of the essence. Exceptions include military veterans returning from a combat zone and people in parts of Louisiana and Mississippi affected by Hurricane Isaac. www.irs.gov
