A task force created to study the effectiveness of past efforts of fighting the heroin epidemic in Madison County was formed earlier this year and organizers say they are pleased with attendance numbers after five meetings. So far the group has discussed recent trends and statistics with local and state officials and it most recently heard from families who have had first hand experience dealing with the drug.

Madison County State's Attorney Tom Gibbons says being a part of this task force has been a great learning experience.

Gibbons says the task force could have as many as seven more meetings depending on how many facets of the issue they want to examine. The next meeting of the Madison Heroin Task Force will be Wednesday, June 25 in the Madison County Board room in Edwardsville.
