With that and other school shootings in mind, the state created a School Security and Standards Task Force, which has put together a preliminary report.
“There are already programs to have a set number of drills,” says State Rep. Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills). “We didn't want to increase the number of drills, but we wanted to make sure that one of the drills would be unannounced.”

And Sente says task force members want to be together beyond this summer's scheduled expiration. “What if, the minute this report comes out, there's new information? It kind of becomes, in a way, obsolete the day it's published.”
