A suspect fired upon police officers that were investigating a shooting incident between two groups of people in Ferguson last night. An 18 year old is reportedly in critical condition at a St. Louis hospital after police returned fire, striking the man. No officers were injured.
St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar says a weapon has been recovered, and four officers have been placed on administrative leave while the shooting investigation takes place. The initial gunfire appeared to be between two groups of people that had gathered for protests in Ferguson last night. Chief Belmar says the people involved in the shooting were not protestors, but were criminals. He says police were looking for the shooters in the first incident when the suspect fired on plainclothes detectives who returned fire. The incident happened on the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of Michael Brown by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson during an altercation. Earlier in the day, about 1,000 people marched in Ferguson in a peaceful demonstration.
