An Edwardsville man has pleaded “not guilty” to multiple felony charges following a struggle and shooting that started with an attempt to serve a search warrant in April. 42-year-old Jay A. Hanks of the 300 block of South Fillmore Drive is charged with four counts of Child Pornography, seven counts of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Armed Violence.
The warrant was being served after a tip from Jerseyville Police about possible child pornography activity on a computer registered to an IP address at the home. Hanks allegedly displayed a handgun and was shot during a struggle for that gun. An officer was hit in the hand and Hanks was hit in the jaw. Both were treated and released. Hanks remains held in the Madison County Jail on $1.2-million bond.
