Investigators believe a case of home invasion and theft has been solved with the surrender of a Moro man earlier this week. On September 2, an 82-year-old Bunker Hill man called 911 to report someone had broken into his home and threw a blanket over his head, taken some items and stole his car.
The car was found several hours later abandoned in Cottage Hills, and based on evidence found at the scene, Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl tells The Big Z they began to suspect 52-year-old Billy D. Curtis of the 6800 block of East Drive in Moro was the man they were looking for. After a phone conversation, Kahl said Curtis’ story wasn’t adding up.

Curtis is officially charged with felony Home Invasion and Theft, and is being held on $100,000 bond in the Macoupin County Jail. Kahl says Curtis and the victim knew each other, but declined to go into further detail.
