The superintendent of the Highland School District denies the allegations laid out in a lawsuit against the district by the principal of Highland High School.  Dr. Karen Gauen says she is paid less than past male administrators in the district, but Mike Sutton denies there is discrimination.

According to a report in the Belleville News Democrat, Gauen filed a federal lawsuit against the district saying she is paid $25,000 less than the man who had the job before her although she has more experience and more education.  Sutton says the district is committed to a positive working and learning environment at the high school and denies that Gauen was discriminated against when she was hired or because she is a woman.
