Surviving family and friends have filed a lawsuit against the St. Clair County Coroner over the death investigation of a Bethalto man.   25 year old Jared McPherson, and 37 year old Brian Lee Hubbs of Alton, were killed in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 255 in August, and the suit alleges the coroner left body parts at the crash scene.

The men were killed August 8 when the truck they were riding in ran off Interstate 255 near Collinsville Road, struck a tree and burst into flames.  The suit said the family visited the crash scene three days later and found pieces of a skull and a hand.  Coroner Rick Stone apologized when questioned by local media, but the suit claims even more bones were found in a subsequent visit by family and friends.  The suit called the coroner's office indifferent, and failed to ensure all body parts were removed from the scene.  The suit was filed by McPherson's sister, Karissa McPherson, and his girlfriend, Candice Holland, in Madison County Court last month.  It seeks monetary damages for emotional distress.
