Illinois' official state vegetable may soon be named, thanks to a group of 4th graders from Chatham. The students, who think sweet corn should be named Illinois’ designated state veggie, proposed the bill passed by the Senate.
It was sponsored by Senator Sam McCann (R-Carlinville), who says although there's more pressing issues facing the legislature, it's important to encourage students who want to get involved.
