Family and friends are mourning the loss of a student from SIUE who was killed in an ATV crash late Saturday night in Calhoun County.  22-year-old Brittany Godfrey of Elgin was critically injured and a male friend riding with her was also injured, but he survived the crash.

Calhoun County authorities were called after others riding with the pair discovered the crash and found Godfrey and the other rider.  Godfrey was pronounced dead at the scene with head trauma and the male victim was transported to a hospital in Missouri for treatment.  Neither was wearing a helmet.  A statement from SIUE indicated Godfrey was a criminal justice/pre-law major and was scheduled to graduate in December.  She was manager of the wrestling team and intramural supervisor in campus recreation.   The school is offering counseling services in the lower level of the Student Success Center.
