Police and school officials in Granite City are investigating why a student brought a gun to Granite City High School yesterday. School officials say another student notified them that there was a gun in the suspect’s locker. The weapon was recovered, and while it was not loaded, there was ammunition found in a backpack.
School officials confronted the suspect student and placed the school on a temporary lockdown while the incident was investigated. The student reportedly admitted to bringing the gun to school, but authorities say they do not believe there was a direct threat to any other student. The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office will hear from Granite City Police and consider any charges. The student has been suspended pending a disciplinary hearing.
