At least a dozen Alton homeowners will receive help staying in their homes.  The Hardest Hit Fund (HHF) program is being relaunched in Illinois, and with it comes mortgage assistance to families struggling to make mortgage payments due to loss of income.

Alton Mayor Brant Walker tells The Big Z this program helps families for up to 12 months with their mortgage who have had a drastic loss of income through no fault of their own.

HHF was established in February 2010 to provide targeted aid to families in states hit hard by the economic and housing market downturn. This year, Illinois received an additional $269 million in HHF funding to transform communities that are still facing economic challenges.
