The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole has given preliminary approval to a number of measures affecting city streets. Those include the closing of a portion of streets on Halloween night for the parade, installing a "slow down" sign on Brown Street near Union Street, and the painting of a "double line" on Aberdeen Avenue from the 3,500 block to the 3,700 block.
The city Fire Department will also be pursuing a 2016 FEMA / DHS Assistance to Firefighters Vehicle Grant for one ambulance. The city would be responsible for 10% of the cost if approved. The Office of Development and Housing asked for one last layover for an intergovernmental agreement with Madison County Transit regarding the Alton Regional Multi-Modal Transportation Center. It is believed that agreement will be ready for ratification at the next meeting in two weeks. The lack of agreement is not slowing down the actual construction of the facility. The full council meets tomorrow night at 6:30 at Alton City Hall.
