A nasty stomach bug is turning up in Illinois and 15 other states, and contaminated salad is a suspect. At least five people in Illinois report cyclospora, which is rare in the U.S. More than 400 people in the country have caught it.
It's not fatal. “It tends not to be that serious,” says Dr. Connie Austin, an infectious disease epidemiologist with the Illinois Department of Public Health. “Certainly, people can become dehydrated, and they do need to seek medical attention if they have diarrhea for several days.”

Austin says the watery, persistent diarrhea has its first onset about a week after you eat the contaminated food or water.
