The process of identifying a body found in Alton a month and a half ago continues, with the St. Louis County Medical Examiner conducting various tests to try and figure out who it is.  The remains were found in a car on Powhatten Street August 5.  According to Alton Police, it appears some of the neighbors had known it was there for some time, but never contacted authorities.

Whether that was due to indifference, a conscious “no snitching” mindset, or parents not believing their kids, Public Information Officer Emily Hejna finds that bothersome.

There are a number of missing persons cases in surrounding communities, but the process of identifying the mummified remains could take months.  Police are leaning away from this being one of the missing persons from Alton at this time.  If you have any information on the case, call Alton Police at 463-3505.
