The pavement on a portion of Illinois 255 continues to deteriorate as sinking dirt under the asphalt has compromised its integrity since late last summer. Engineers have come up with conflicting results. IDOT missed its target date of last Thanksgiving to open the road to Humbert, but agency officials are still confident all will be ready to go later this year.
The cause of the pavement problems are related to the dirt underneath, but why it has become a problem in just that isolated area about 400 yards past the barricades on Seminary remains a mystery. IDOT Project Implementation Engineer Jeff Church says results of a new round of testing is expected this week, and those in charge hope that information will lead them to a fix.
He says crews are also making great progress as the project evolves into the Corridor 67 proiject, which is also ahead of schedule.
