Union steelworkers are expected to rally later today in Granite City in response to lagging contract negotiations.  The contract with United Steelworkers expires on September 1 and the union says talks with U.S. Steel are stalled.

The U.S. Steel Plant in Granite City was to have been idled earlier this year, but that plan was changed and the plant remains in operation.  The union represents about 2,000 workers in Granite City and today’s rally is scheduled for 4pm near the plant at 20th and State Streets.
