The owner of an Alton restaurant is reaching out to customers to let them know that they have stepped up security to prevent another credit card scam from occurring. Two years ago five people, including two employees of Amarillo Tex's Steakhouse and Saloon were caught skimming customers credit card numbers. Since that time, owner Shelly McCormick has added additional cameras that monitor employees.
A total of nine additional surveillance cameras have been added to key areas of the restaurant, including all of the money stations or cash registers. He has also taken out a bigger insurance policy and now requires all employees to undergo background checks.
The former employees of the restaurant, 32-year old Lynn Erwin of Glen Carbon and 22-year old Marie Bausily each face up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count conspiracy to commit access device fraud in June. Sentencing has been scheduled for September 17th.
