The Illinois Department of Public Health is encouraging testing during STD Awareness Month. According to IDPH half of all new STDs are occurring among people 15 to 24 years of age. Over the last five years STDs have increased in Illinois with the state ranking 10th and 11th for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia, the two most commonly reported infections.

IDPH is encouraging the use of the IDPH HIV/STD Hotline for information and finding clinics and providers for diagnosis and treatment. In 2011, Chlamydia cases in teens aged 15 to 19 accounted for 35 percent of all reported cases in Illinois. Gonorrhea cases among 15 to 19 year olds in Illinois accounted for 33 percent of all reported cases. In 2010, 37 percent of all new HIV infections were among Illinois residents aged 13 to 29.
