It’s severe weather season in Illinois, and the state emergency management agency says the best way to be prepared is to have a weather radio. Weather radios aren’t very expensive and can be found at most stores. IEMA director Jonathon Monken says more importantly, they save lives.
Monken says another good idea is to pick a spot in your house ahead of time, where you would go if there is a tornado warning. Ideally, that would be in your basement. If you don’t have a basement, a closet or bathroom is your next best bet, away from any windows. Those in a mobile home should seek shelter under a heavy piece of furniture.
