The time between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve can be an especially dangerous time on the highways, as it is the time of year when a large number of fatal accidents occur. The Illinois State Police just wrapped up special Traffic Enforcement, or s.T.E.P. Patrols for the month of November, and promise a continued presence through the rest of the year.

He says distracted driving can mimic drunk or drugged driving in many cases. So far this year the ISP has issued almost 11,000 distracted driving citations and more than 10,000 written warnings.
