Traffic deaths in the Metro-East are up 11% from this time last year and the Illinois State Police have an idea why. They say the fatal four are responsible for the majority of the crashes. The fatal four include speeding, driving under the influence, failure to wear a seat belt and distracted driving.

State Trooper Mike Link says there is a common example he uses to get people to understand the simplicity of putting on a seat belt.

Trooper Link also says that the State Police will be cracking down on the Fatal Four through the use of roadside checks in Madison county throughout the month of July

So far this year there have been more than 34 fatal accidents resulting in more than 40 fatalities in Bond, Clinton, Madison, Monroe and St. Clair counties.
