A State of Emergency has been issued for St. Louis County following last night’s events in Ferguson, Missouri.  St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger released a statement that said “the recent acts of violence will not be tolerated in a community that has worked so tirelessly over the last year to rebuild and become stronger.”

As a result of the decree, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar will take over the operation of police emergency management in the City of Ferguson and surrounding areas.  An 18 year old is reportedly in critical condition at a St. Louis hospital after police returned fire following an apparent gunfight between two groups of men in the area late last night.  The incident happened on the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of Michael Brown by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson during an altercation.   Earlier in the day, about 1,000 people marched in Ferguson in a peaceful demonstration.
