The state wants you to get into shape. Specifically Illinois residents are being urged to walk 167 miles during 2012, the same amount of miles the governor walked 10 years ago on his cross-state trip advocating decent healthcare for all. It’s the walking distance from the Centennial Bridge in Rock Island to the lakefront at Grant Park in Chicago.

Former Chicago Bear and Super Bowl champ Otis Wilson has been tapped to help promote the Walk Across Illinois Challenge. “Adding a little exercise to your daily agenda can make a big difference in your quality of life,” Wilson said.

 According to a recent report by the Trust for America’s Health, Illinois ranks as the 23rd most obese state in the nation.
