The Illinois State Fair opened in Springfield with the annual Twilight Parade to the fairgrounds last night. Governor Bruce Rauner and other city and state officials walked the route through the northern part of the city and helped open a free preview night. All regular festivities begin today on the fairgrounds and run through August 21.

After a ribbon cutting this morning (at 9:30), the fairgrounds will open to the public with rides, games and food tents. Livestock shows will also be featured today, a special Illinois version of "Chopped" will take place this afternoon and tonight on stage at the Grandstand is Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo and Melissa Etheridge at 7:30 pm.
