The lack of a sufficient state budget has apparently forced the closure of a state park and a state recreation area in southern Illinois.  Horseshoe Lake State Park near Granite City and the Ramsey Lake State Recreation Area near Ramsey will be closed indefinitely due to the loss of electrical or trash service.

In the case of Ramsey Lake, the facility is being closed due to the termination of electrical service.  The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will contact campers with reservations to work out other arrangements and refunds. Horseshoe Lake will close Monday April 25 due to termination of trash and electrical service.  Those with reservations at Horseshoe Lake will be contacted about making other arrangements or refunds.  There is no estimate of when either site might reopen.
