A 150-million dollar construction project is underway at the state capitol. The remodel comes in the midst of a financial crisis but officials say the building needs HVAC and other infrastructure upgrades, including removing asbestos from the west wing.

The project is being paid for with money from the Illinois Jobs Now Capital Construction Program which passed three years ago but critics say the timing isn't right. The state has a multi-billion dollar backlog and nearly two thousand state workers have been slated to lose their jobs thanks to the budget crisis.
