A new state police facility will give local law enforcement enhanced crime-fighting capabilities. Officials broke ground Sunday on the thirty-eight-million-dollar Metro-East Forensic Science Laboratory in Belleville. The 64-thousand-square-foot laboratory will include cutting edge crime scene equipment, including labs equipped for the latest in forensic biology and DNA testing.

State officials say the project will also create about 260 construction jobs while it is being built.
