Some officials in St. Clair County are willing to pay big bucks to bring high speed rail to East St. Louis. They've reportedly committed to give half-a-million dollars to ensure the fast train stops there, enroute to St Louis. Some argue it doesn't make sense to put a stop in East St. Louis because it's so close to the final destination.
Board members will likely vote on the proposal during a meeting tonight. The high speed rail line between St. Louis and Chicago is expected to be completed in 2017, with a new station planned for Alton at the former Wadlow Golf Course site that will include Madison County Transit bus service.
